Adobe illustrator is a program that allows you to create vector graphics, which are graphics created mathematically by your computer that can be drastically changed with no quality loss. This basically means that when creating art on adobe illustrator the graphic can be changed in size to the size of a billboard or the size of your thumb, without losing quality. This can have majorly positive affects on your work.
Vector graphics have a huge advantage over bitmap graphics because they can be enlarged without any decrease in quality. For example, if you were using photo-shop and you increased the size of a circle, it would look like this. This makes working with bitmap graphics a struggle, due to the fact you don't have the freedom to change your mind.
